As Gutschmid rightly insists (584) the text should not be emended to bring it into line with the more usual hellenistic name ῾Ιεροσόλυμα (e.g., Hecataeus apud Diodorus Siculus 40.3.3). Clearchus deliberately conveys, or invents, a linguistically ugly version of the name (cf. Lysimachus’ ploy in 1.311).
